Top 8 Reasons to Work with an Herbalist in Fall and Winter

8. Actually Digest Food

Often the foods we eat during the holiday season are more difficult to digest than our day-to-day meals because they are richer (higher in carbohydrates, sugar or fats) and harder to break down and digest. Working with an herbalist can help prepare your digestive system for actually digesting the upcoming

potlucks and gatherings.

7. Navigate the Comments

During the Holiday Season we tend to gather with family, chosen-family, co-workers and other groups of friends. It's common to be asked questions or have comments made that you weren't expecting, or to have difficult feelings come up with people you don't see eye-to-eye with politically. Working with an herbalist can  prepare your emotional and spiritual bodies to have clear boundaries before, during and after large social gatherings.

6. Avoid Getting Sick

When we travel for the holidays, whether that's across the country or across town, it's easy for us to get exposed to new and weird germs. This can result in getting a cold, flu or COVID exposure and land us in bed for a week or two. Working with an herbalist can resource your immune system in way that even if you exposed you can avoid getting sick.

5. Get Quiet

Winter is a time for going in, getting quiet and listening to what arrises. Working with an herbalist can help you set up routines and rituals to make the most of this time of year, akin to the yin energy of night. If you're interested in working on your boundaries, mood  and immune health with herbs, while developing a winter self-care ritual, consider joining my seasonal circle, Winter Night Seed to meet folks with similar goals and build your herbal community.

4. Reduce Spring Allergies

As the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and this could not be more true in preparing for spring allergies, which for many folks in the Bay Area start in February. Working with an herbalist to get the liver, immune response and overall body prepared for spring can FULLY reduce pollen allergies. I've seen it happen in my clinic many times and my clients have been even more delighted than I!

3. Get Better Sleep

Sleep is important year-round, and winter is season when hibernating is in vogue. If your sleep is interrupted, if you wake up early or if you have trouble falling asleep, there are herbs and other holistic practices that can support you getting back into a healthy rhythm. Working with an herbalist can help you see where your personal sleep hygiene can be brushed up, and can introduce you to herbs that can balance the body systems in need of support, for a restful night of sleep.

2. Look at the Root

If you struggle to keep a positive outlook in Fall and Winter, or if you've had major changes or losses that have left you feeling vulnerable to emotional shifts, you might consider working with an herbalist this season. Looking at the root, patterns and big pictures when feeling blue by working with an herbalist can shift your perspective, move out dated long-held blocks and have positive, life changing effects (I'm not exaggerating here, I've seen it every time in my work with long-term clients) with the gentle support of herbs and flower essences.

1. Work Towards Serenity

Considering the world we live in, if you're not experiencing stress, anxiety or worry, you're either enlightened or you're likely not paying attention. There are many, many herbs to support these imbalanced states, so many that it can be hard to choose one. Working with an herbalist can help you find an herb that will support your unique patterns, help you work towards serenity and unlock a few chill vibes in your day.
